Bahrain security approach concerning

Iran has expressed concern over the stepped-up security measures by the Bahraini regime and its regional and Western allies against political and religious figures and constitutional societies in the tiny Persian Gulf state.
Bahrain security approach concerning

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham on Sunday warned that such intensification of security approaches and pressure would only further complicate Bahrain’s situation.

She urged Bahraini officials to adopt confidence-building measures in an attempt to prepare the ground for serious dialog between the government and people.

Afkham’s remarks came after Bahraini police on Sunday interrogated the secretary general of the country’s main opposition bloc, the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, over what has been described as “violations” of law.

Sheikh Ali Salman was summoned to the criminal investigation department and questioned about “violating certain aspects of the law,” Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Bahrain has been the scene of almost daily protests against the Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, when an uprising began in the kingdom.

Since mid-February 2011, thousands of protesters have held numerous rallies in the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.

The regime in Bahrain has been severely criticized by human rights groups for its harsh crackdown on anti-government protesters, which has claimed the lives of scores of people so far.
