Larijani to tour regional countries

20 Dec 2014 - 11:41

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani is to start a four-day tour of regional counties this weekend.

Larijani’s trip, which starts on December 21, will include visits to Lebanon, Syria and Iraq, Fars News Agency reported.

According to Lebanese sources, Larijani is expected to hold meetings with high-profile Lebanese officials, including Prime Minister Tammam Salam, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, and senior Hezbollah officials.

Iran enjoys friendly relations with Lebanon, Iraq and Syria as the three have cooperated in many areas with Tehran, including the fight against Takfiri terrorist groups. The countries are also home to millions of Shia Muslims.

Larijani’s future trip will come against the backdrop of diplomatic visits to Tehran by high-profile officials from regional countries.

Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi was in the Iranian capital earlier in the week and met with high-ranking officials of the Iranian government.

Iraq’s Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri also traveled to Tehran on December 16 and held talks with senior Iranian officials during his two-day visit.
