The World Forum for proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought, in a message, offered deep condolence over the on the passing away of Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani, Chairman of Iran’s Assembly of Experts., reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

The unity organization also expressed deep sorrow to Iranian people and the honorable bereaved family of the late political face, his disciples and religious scholars, praying for patience to the family of the deceased for their lost.


The message also prayed to Allah Almighty to bestow grace and remission on the blessed soul of that religious scholar.

Ayatollah Mahdavi Kani died in Tehran on Tuesday after being hospitalized for more than four months. The top cleric, 83, was admitted to the hospital on June 4 after suffering a heart failure and went into a coma afterwards.


Back in 2011, Ayatollah Mahdavi Kani was elected as the chairman of the Assembly of Experts, a high-ranking body of experts which elects and oversees the activities of the leader of the Islamic Revolution.

The leading cleric was a close ally of the founder of the Islamic Republic, the late Imam Khomeini, and played a major role in events that culminated in the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
