Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah, who was receiving Iran’s deputy-FM for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, said that Iraq’s disintegration was a threat to the country, and that “Kuwait’s official line of policy is focusing upon the Iraqi constitution in matters of foreign policy.”

Amir-Abdollahian in his tour of Persian Gulf Arab states to discuss recent developments in the region, especially in Iraq and Syria.

Amir-Abdollahian emphasized on the international cooperation to fight terrorism as ‘necessary.’ “Supporting Iraq’s territorial integrity and the unity around the country’s constitution is one of the pivots of Islamic Republic’s foreign policy in Iraq,” he said.

He believed that the Iraqi government was elected and legitimate and that “it should not be overthrown by coup d’état by extremists.”

Amir-Abdollahian called on all countries to join the campaign against terrorism. “The nature of terrorist attacks in Iraq reveals foreign hands behind the attacks,” he added, warning that it would become a new trend in the region if silence on their terrorist acts continued.

He said that security of Kuwait and other Persian Gulf states was important for Iran.

Al Sabah emphasized on the unity of Iraqi factions and believed the current political developments as violation of the country’s constitution. “Kuwait believes in fighting terrorism; we believe that a timely agreement in Iraqi Parliament on choosing the prime minister, president, and speaker is crucial to bring stability to the country,” he added.
