"I will never give up on my candidacy for the post of prime minister," said the incumbent premier in a statement released on Friday.

Maliki said other parties could not impose conditions on the final selection of the prime minister as his party, the State of Law Coalition, won a majority of seats in the country’s elections on April 30.

He also said the Iraqi forces would continue their fight against militants from the terrorist group the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) who are killing people in the Middle Eastern country.

Maliki said on Friday that the fight would continue until the so-called ISIL is defeated.

More than one million Iraqis have fled their homes over the past month as the ISIL terrorists seized the cities of Mosul and Tikrit.

Maliki has said Saudi Arabia and Qatar are responsible for the security crisis and growing terrorism in his country, denouncing the Al Saud regime as a major supporter of global terrorism.
