Shia Jurisprudent warns against indecent moves in Muharram

On the beginning days of Muharram, a senior Iranian jurisprudent issued a message to warn against innovative moves or distortion of Ashura truths during the mourning ceremonies of Muharram.


Grand Ayatollah Hussein Noori Hamedani, top Iranian jurisprudent, issued a statement on the occasion of Muharram and banned any overstatement and extremist move during the mourning ceremonies of Muharram, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

The message by senior cleric runs,” In confrontation with distortions brought into Islam, we have to know that moves like using machetes or any word in contrast with the honor of these days is religiously banned.”

Shia cleric hailed Ashura incident, martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), is a global and eternal school of thought to rescue people from oppression, dependence and abjection.

Ayatollah Noori Hamedani stressed Ashura as an enlightening school of thought which has to be held with more vigor.

Grand cleric criticized any distortion or innovative move during mourning ceremonies and banned use of machetes or expressing indecent wording in contrast with honor of the month.

Muharram is the first month in Muslim lunar calendar which is particularly marked for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), and 72 of his close companions back in 680 CE.
