Cleric proposes academic solutions for counter-extremism campaigns
Top Shia cleric attended met with director of Russian RUDN University in Moscow on Tuesday stressing academic and scientific solutions as way to confront extremist groups.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Mohammad Hussein Mokhtari, director of the University of Islamic Denominations (UID) leading the Iranian delegation met with Vladimir Filippov, director of Russia’s RUDN University stressing academic solutions as part of his proposal for counter-terrorism campaign to be discussed in an upcoming conference in Russia, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
He referred to preventive measures against extremism and misreading of religion as part of the mission carried out by Iran’s University of Islamic Denominations and said,” The world is challenged by extremist and illogical tendencies which have led to much chaos across the globe.”
The cleric added,” We are witness to creation of extremist and deviate groups claimant of following religions while committing the worst crimes under the pretext of faiths.”
Director of the University of Islamic Denominations highlighted academic and ideological solutions as the sole ways to confront extremist groups and said,” The international conference on religion and confrontation with violence will be held as a joint move with RUDN University since we believe in efficient role of religious scholars in preventing extremist views and guiding the society.”
Iranian and Russian sides also discussed launching a branch for joint cooperation between the University of Islamic Denominations and People’s Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) vowing to inaugurate the center in the next meeting of Hujjat-ul-Islam Mokhtari to Moscow.
RUDN University will be hosting the international conference on religion and counter-terrorism campaign in cooperation with Iran’s University of Islamic Denominations in early March 2019.
A number of academic and political authorities from Iran and Russia will be attending the conference.
