Islamic unity calls denominations to maintain commonalities
Hujjat-ul-Islam Seyyed Mahmoud Nabavian, cultural deputy of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, hailed the achievements of the Islamic Unity Conference stressing that unity translates to maintaining ones denomination while stressing commonalities with other schools of thought, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He said,” Qur’an has called Muslims to maintain solidarity among them and this is a necessity for the whole world of Islam to avoid dispersion.”

“Had Muslims been united enemies could not impose several sanctions on Iran” said the cleric and added,” If Arab states sever their ties with European countries then the European bloc would not follow such behavior with the world of Islam imposing these economic sanctions on them.”

Cultural deputy at the prominent Islamic unity center stressed, ” If we (Muslim countries) have joint army and currency then European countries will not be able to bully us.”

On the eve of the 32nd Islamic Unity Conference the cleric also referred to achievements of the annual convention and reiterated necessity of scientific exchanges between Islamic countries.

He rejected the current misconceptions regarding Islamic unity and said, “Some imagine unity would translate to Shia or Sunni converting to other faiths though unity calls Muslims to maintain their denomination meanwhile avoiding any conflict.”

He added,” By unity we do not mean Muslims to leave the 8 Islamic denominations but to stress commonalities of these schools of thought since we share the utmost in our fiq’h.”

The cleric made the comments at the opening ceremony of the second Unity Photography Festival held in the Iranian capital of Tehran.
