Iran bags 3 Karate 1 - Premier League silver

Iranian karate practitioners have exhibited great punching, knee strikes as well as open-hand techniques at the Karate 1 - Premier League Rotterdam 2018, and scooped three silver medals in the prestigious international tournament.

On Sunday, Hamideh Abbasali featured in the women’s over 68-kilogram kumite competitions, but lost to her 25-year-old Japanese rival Ayumi Uekusa in the final contest, and claimed the second spot.

In the men’s minus 75-kilogram kumite division, Bahman Asgari Ghoncheh was beaten 4-2 in his battle with Ken Nishimura from Japan, and picked up another silver medal for the Islamic Republic of Iran.



Earlier, the Iran men's national kata team, comprised of Amir Bahador Tadayyon, Rouzbeh Roshani and Soheil Sajedifar, went on tatami, and suffered a 5-0 defeat in the final against Italy to snatch the silver.

The Karate 1 - Premier League Rotterdam 2018 started in the Netherlands on March 16 and finished on March 18.



Some 683 male and female karate practitioners from 74 countries, including Austria, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kosovo, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey, participated in the competitions.
