"It is time to have a humanitarian cease-fire before a gigantic tragedy develops in Gaza, if we have the same kind of intensity of military operations in Gaza that we have seen in Khan Younis and in other parts of Gaza territory, I mean, the same in Rafah," Guterres said at a news conference at the UN headquarters in New York.
'I strongly appeal to the governments that have suspended their contributions to, at least, guarantee the continuity of UNRWA’s operations,' says Guterres
Addressing Qatar’s Doha Forum, Guterres said the council was paralyzed by geostrategic divisions that were undermining solutions to the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza, which so far resulted in the murder of nearly 17,000 Palestinians, predominantly civilians.
In a statement issued by his office, Guterres said the settlers' terrorist acts included "acts of sabotage and arson of land, property and schools in Palestinian villages around Nablus and Ramallah."
"The sense of peace, the sense of solidarity, the sense of generosity that I witnessed in the communities hosting refugees, and also the resilience, the courage of the refugees themselves was extremely inspiring," he said.
In a telephone call with the UN's chief Antonio Guterres on Thursday, Iran's FM Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stressed the shore-up of international aid to the quake-hit people of Syria and Türkiye.
