According to the Taghrib News Agency, thirty-seven years have passed since the passing of the great architect of the Islamic Revolution, but the pure and strategic thoughts of Imam Khomeini have not only become outdated but every day increasingly stand out as an effective prescription for healing the ailments of the Islamic world. At a time when enemies, by fomenting religious and ethnic differences, seek to weaken Muslims, revisiting teachings such as "Shia-Sunni unity," "anti-arrogance stance," "mutual trust between people and government," and "the comprehensiveness of the religion of Islam" is a civilizational necessity. Sunni Friday prayer imams in the cities of Baneh, Diwandarreh, Dehgolan, and Marivan, in separate interviews, have elaborated on the various dimensions of this school of thought, which we review below.
The Imam's Transnational Thought; A Single Islamic Ummah
Mamosta Jamal Karimi, Friday prayer imam of Baneh, emphasizing that the unity of the Islamic Ummah, insight against arrogance, dignity, and hope-building are among the most important teachings of Imam Khomeini (RA), noted: "The founder of the Revolution's perspective, from the beginning of the movement, went beyond Iran's geographical borders, and he considered the Islamic Ummah as a single entity with a shared destiny."
Referring to the message of the June 5 uprising, he added: "This uprising emphasized the necessity of Muslims' resistance against oppression, tyranny, and foreign domination, and today this same message can pave the way for strengthening solidarity among Muslim nations."
The Friday prayer imam of Baneh warned: "The enemies of the Islamic world, by fomenting religious, ethnic, and political differences, are trying to weaken the power of Muslims; therefore, Shia-Sunni unity, which was one of Imam's strategic recommendations, is a civilizational necessity for the authority of the Islamic Ummah."
The School of Monotheism; Justice and Comprehensiveness of Religion
Mamosta Jalal Moradi, Friday prayer imam of Diwandarreh, described Imam Khomeini's intellectual foundations as based on monotheism, justice, ethics, and the comprehensiveness of the religion of Islam, and said: "The divine politics he envisioned, in addition to providing for the material needs of society, also pursues spiritual growth and otherworldly happiness for humans."
He added: "In Imam's view, absolute sovereignty belongs to God, and the world has been created based on justice, wisdom, and purpose." The Friday prayer imam of Diwandarreh, referring to the definition of politics from the perspective of Imam Khomeini, stated: "Politics from his perspective includes three basic axes: the relationship of the ruler with the people, the relationship of the ruler with foreign governments, and preventing corruption in society—an issue that, given the spread of certain intellectual and financial damages and corruptions today, has gained greater importance."
Standard-Bearer of Unity and Supporter of Palestine
Mamosta Abdolsalam Mohammadi, Friday prayer imam of Dehgolan, describing the dimensions of Imam Khomeini's character, stated: "The founder of the Islamic Republic, by emphasizing Islamic unity, confronting global arrogance, supporting the Palestinian nation, and promoting a culture of dignity and independence, placed a clear path before the Iranian nation and the Islamic Ummah."
He noted: "Imam Khomeini, as a mujahid scholar, intellectual, and revolutionary, was from the early days of the Revolution the standard-bearer of unity among Islamic sects and considered unity the most important way to achieve solidarity and empathy among Muslims."
Mamosta Mohammadi also referred to Imam's role in the June 5 uprising and said: "Through enlightenment and public awareness, he played an important role in the awakening of the Islamic Ummah."
Public Trust; The Key to the System's Authority
Mamosta Sharif Saedi, Friday prayer imam of the Grand Mosque of Baharan in Marivan, considered national unity and public trust as the key to Iran's authority in Imam Khomeini's thought and stated: "In the Islamic world, the most fundamental defensive tool against threats and conspiracies is unity and solidarity among ethnic groups, sects, and holders of Islamic thought."
He emphasized: "The greater the cohesion of the Islamic Ummah, the greater the ability to confront enemies will be." This Sunni scholar, referring to the role of religious leaders and officials in strengthening unity, added: "The messages and guidelines of Imam Khomeini (RA) and other great figures of the Revolution have always been on the path of strengthening empathy and national unity."
According to Taqrib, a review of Imam Khomeini's thoughts from the perspective of the Sunni Friday prayer imams of Kurdistan presents a clear picture of a comprehensive and guiding school of thought—a school in which "unity" is not a slogan but a civilizational principle, "dignity" is not an abstract concept but a culture, and "public trust" is not a recommendation but the guarantor of the survival of systems. Teachings that, if taken seriously today by officials, elites, and all members of society, will not only protect Islamic Iran from the conspiracies of arrogance but will also save the Islamic Ummah from dispersion and guide it towards true authority. Perhaps the most important message of this report is that the Imam's path still continues, and keeping it alive requires insight, empathy, and collective action.
