UNRWA describes situation in occupied West Bank as ‘shocking’

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Monday that the “shocking scenes” resulting from the ongoing Israeli aggression for two weeks in the occupied West Bank “undermine the fragile ceasefire reached in Gaza and risk a new escalation.”
UNRWA describes situation in occupied West Bank as ‘shocking’
The UNRWA statement comes as the Israeli army continues its aggression on the governorates of Jenin, Tulkarm and Tubas (northern West Bank) for the fourteenth day, blowing up residential blocks and arresting Palestinians.
“Large swathes of Jenin camp were completely destroyed in a series of controlled detonations by the Israeli Security Forces,” said UNRWA. “The Agency received no prior warning of these detonations, as contact between staff and Israeli authorities is no longer permitted, putting civilian lives at risk.”
UNRWA pointed out that residents of the Jenin refugee camp have “endured the impossible,” facing nearly two months of unceasing and escalating violence. “In the past months, Jenin camp has been rendered a ghost town.”
On Sunday, Bashir Matahen, the director of public relations and media for Jenin municipality, told Anadolu news agency that, “The [Israeli] bombings will continue according to what the Israeli army informed official Palestinian sources.”
Meanwhile, Jenin’s governor, Kamal Abu Al-Rab, told Anadolu that, “The Israeli bombings in the camp are the first of their kind since 2002, following a battle that destroyed parts of the camp at the time.”
In the same year, coinciding with the Al-Aqsa Intifada, Israel launched a military offensive on the Jenin camp and destroyed it. Palestinians in the area told Anadolu earlier that they are living through an even greater tragedy than the one in 2002.
Coinciding with the start of the genocidal war in Gaza, the Israeli army and settlers expanded their attacks in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which have killed 905 Palestinians, wounded about 7,000, and arrested 14,300, according to official Palestinian data.
