15th of May is the anniversary of Nakba Day (Day of Catastrophe) for the Palestinian nation, a day which ended with expulsion of 950,000 Palestinians out of 1,400,000 citizens across 1,300 cities and villages.

This year the anniversary of Nakba Day is commemorated with the motto "74 years of oppression and dual policies are enough". The motto reveals the double oppression of Israeli regime on the one hand and incapability of the international community to make any decision on the issue on the other hand.

According to an announcement by Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority, activities to mark Nakba Day include hoisting Palestinian flag over state, civil and security institutes and all other public places across the region on Sunday, concurrent with the 74th anniversary of the Nakba Day.

The Great March of Return is held in Ramallah and the participants in the ceremony will observe 74 seconds of silence to commemorate the 74th anniversary of Nakba Day.

Gathering of Palestinian refugees in other countries, bell ringing ceremonies, broadcasting Adhan in mosques, radio and television channels, ringing the bells at churches, marking the occasion in West Bank and holding painting gallery with the theme of the March of Return are among the plans to commemorate Nakba Day 2022.

According to the Palestinian Information Center, Israeli groups have gained control of 774 Palestinian cities and villages and totally destroyed 531 urban and rural areas razing down all historical and civil symbols in the region.

These years have left over 70 UK-backed crimes by Israeli regime including Deir Yassin Massacre, Al Tantura massacre and also over 15,000 martyrs as well as countless clashes between Palestinian resistance movements and Arab army on the one side and occupying Israeli forces on the other side.

531 villages and towns have been totally destroyed for the new Israeli settlements to be constructed. Major cities have also been occupied and brutal clashes have erupted as some have been targeted and destroyed in Israeli airstrikes.

According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine Refugees in Near East the number of Palestinian refugee camps of the agency reaches 58: 10 camps in Jordan, 9 in Syria, 12 in Lebanon, 19 in the West Bank and 8 camps in the Gaza Strip.

74 years ago on this day Israeli regime announced its establishment, backed by colonial British government and based on the Balfour Declaration; it occupied 78 per cent of the Palestinian lands and paved the way for immigration of the Jews to Palestine in 1917.

According to a 2019 survey the number of Palestinians reached 13 million people five million of them living in the West Bank. At present, though 1,579,000 Palestinians live in the occupied lands of 1948, six million in the Arab states and 727,000 in other countries.
