In a statement, the center expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Gorgij, saying the killing of a religious scholar was not merely a crime against an individual but an attack on knowledge, religious values and the Islamic community.
“Undoubtedly, this cowardly crime once again exposed the nature of the enemies of Islam, the unity and security of the Iranian nation,” the statement said.
It added that the enemies should know that the martyrdom of a scholar would not extinguish the light of knowledge and guidance, but would strengthen the resolve of scholars and people to safeguard Islamic unity, security and religious values.
The center strongly condemned the terrorist attack and extended condolences to Gorgij’s family, Sunni scholars and clerics, the people of Sistan and Baluchestan and the Iranian nation.
Molavi Gorgij, the Sunni prayer leader of the Mohammad Rasulullah (PBUH) Mosque in Zahedan, was assassinated by unidentified armed men outside his home on Monday night.
