The deputy spokesperson for the Taliban announced that the restoration and reconstruction work on the historic "Khwaja Abdullah Ansari" Mosque in the "Gazar Gah" area of Herat province has been completed. The project reportedly cost 107 million Afghanis.

Hamdullah Fitrat, the deputy spokesperson for the Taliban, announced yesterday (Thursday) that the project took two years to complete, and the mosque has once again been opened to worshippers after reconstruction.

According to him, the mosque has been rebuilt on two floors with an area of over 3,000 square meters and can accommodate approximately 10,000 worshippers.

During the project, facilities including an ablution area, green spaces, a library, and a parking lot were also constructed.

Since returning to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, the Taliban have increased the implementation of mosque construction and development projects in various regions of the country.

This comes as the Taliban have spent millions of dollars on mosque construction over the past five years, while according to UN estimates, more than half of Afghanistan's population requires humanitarian aid to meet their basic needs.
