Iran condemns US over deadly strike killing several at wedding ceremony in Hormozgan
Iran has accused the United States of committing a war crime after a residential building in the southern province of Hormozgan was struck while a wedding celebration was taking place, killing and injuring dozens of people.

Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said early Wednesday that the incident occurred in Bandar-e Kuhestak, in Sirik County, during a U.S. military attack on Iran on Tuesday evening.
“More than 50 innocent women, men and children were killed or injured,” Baghaei said in a post on X, according to the statement provided by Iran’s Foreign Ministry.
Baghaei described the incident as the latest addition to what he called a long list of U.S. “crimes” against the Iranian people. He said the attack could not be viewed separately from earlier strikes reported in Minab, Lamerd, Qeshm and other locations.
He also argued that attacks on military targets should be considered as part of the broader pattern of U.S. military action against Iran, rejecting what he described as “deceptive labels and justifications” used to defend the strikes.
“The danger more serious than the bomb itself is the normalization of bombing,” Baghaei said, warning that international silence should not be interpreted as acceptance or legitimacy.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said Iran would respond decisively to what he described as “brutal crimes.” He also criticized governments and international organizations that, in his words, remain silent or seek to justify the attacks.
“When illegal attacks and blatant crimes are whitewashed and justified for political convenience, the line between condemning a crime and normalizing it disappears,” Baghaei said.
The reports of casualties in Bandar-e Kuhestak emerged as the military strikes in Hormozgan took on a growing humanitarian dimension. Local officials reportedly said a projectile struck a residential area where a wedding ceremony was underway and that dozens of people were killed or wounded.
The casualty figure and circumstances of the incident have not been independently verified based on the information available in the report. Further details about the victims, the nature of the target and the circumstances surrounding the strike remain unclear.
