Experts say Islamic unity was a core belief of martyred Leader of Islamic Revolution
The 64th session of the “United Ummah” specialized forum has examined Islamic unity as a key to the success of the Resistance Front, with experts describing unity as a fundamental belief rather than a temporary political tactic.

The session, titled “Islamic Unity: The Key to Victory of the Resistance Front in the Thought of the Martyred Imam,” brought together academics and experts on Palestine and West Asia.
Mohammad Shahedi, the forum’s scientific secretary, said the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution may still be difficult for many to comprehend, but described martyrdom as the greatest reward and blessing that could be bestowed upon a divine leader.
He said martyrdom gives a leader lasting life and influence, adding that the martyred leader’s guidance and teachings continue to contribute to the advancement of the Islamic Revolution’s goals.
Hujjat-ul-Islam Rasul Bagheri, secretary general of the Qademoun Global Assembly, said Islam is fundamentally based on monotheism and unity, adding that this principle extends beyond the Muslim world to relations with followers of other religions.
Referring to the Quranic concept of “a common word” (kalimat sawa’), Bagheri said Islam calls the People of the Book to unite around monotheism. He also stressed that the concept of unity promoted by Imam Khomeini and the martyred leader was not merely a tactical alliance against a common enemy, but was rooted in the broader civilizational concept of “building the Ummah.”
He explained that Islamic unity does not require Muslims to abandon their different schools of thought, beliefs or cultural identities. Rather, these differences can exist within a shared civilizational framework.
Hossein Royvaran, a senior West Asia affairs expert, said Islam’s monotheistic foundation makes unity an essential principle. Citing the Quranic verse, “Indeed, this Ummah of yours is one Ummah,” he said there is one Islamic Ummah despite differences in interpretations and jurisprudential approaches.
Royvaran described the lack of unity as one of the major weaknesses of the Muslim world and called for greater efforts to strengthen solidarity among Muslims.
Seyyed Jafar Razavi, a senior Palestine affairs expert, said the martyred leader’s Ummah-oriented outlook contributed to the formation and strengthening of the Resistance Front.
He said the Islamic Republic’s support for Hamas, a Sunni Palestinian movement, demonstrated that its approach to resistance transcends sectarian divisions. According to Razavi, the practical support provided to different resistance groups also helped counter attempts to portray Iran’s calls for Islamic unity and resistance as mere slogans.
He added that the Resistance Front has strengthened unity-oriented currents across the Muslim world while weakening efforts aimed at promoting division and Western-oriented political currents.
Razavi concluded that the martyred leader’s Ummah-oriented approach had also provided a benchmark for distinguishing authentic Islamic movements from groups that, despite their Islamic appearance, were established or supported by Western powers.
