Nearly 3.5 million foreign pilgrims arrive in Iraq for Arbaeen: reports

Nearly 3.5 million foreign pilgrims have entered Iraq since the beginning of the Islamic month of Muharram to participate in the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage, according to the country's Security Media Center.

Saad Maan, head of the Iraqi Security Media Center, said on Friday that 3,435,492 pilgrims had arrived in Iraq through various border crossings as of Thursday night.

Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Maan said the pilgrims represent 172 different nationalities, highlighting the global scale of the world's largest annual religious gathering.

He added that Arbaeen ceremonies are being held with a "high level of order and smooth organization," crediting Iraqi security forces and volunteer service camps (mawkibs) for their extensive efforts to provide services and ensure the safety and comfort of pilgrims.

Maan also said that security and service plans for Arbaeen remain in effect to facilitate the movement of pilgrims and ensure the ceremonies continue in an orderly and secure manner.

Arbaeen marks the 40th day of mourning for martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions martyred while fighting the tyrannical ruler of time, Yazid ibn Muawiyah, in the Battle of Karbala.
