Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces condemn attacks on bases in southern Iraq

Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, said Wednesday that several of its official bases across the country had come under US-Saudi joint attacks.

In a statement, the PMF said the attacks targeted several of its facilities in different parts of Iraq early Wednesday, leaving a number of personnel dead or wounded and causing damage to buildings and other property.
 
The organization described the attacks as "a highly dangerous escalation," saying they constituted "a blatant violation of Iraq's sovereignty" and targeted the country's official security institutions.
 
The PMF added that relevant authorities were conducting field assessments and that efforts to determine the full extent of the damage and confirm casualty figures were still underway.
 
Meanwhile Saudi Ministry of Defense and the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) issued separate statements announcing that they had carried out a joint operation targeting several bases and weapons depots belonging to resistance groups in Iraq.
 
The statements reportedly said the operation was conducted in response to recent drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities.
 
CENTCOM claimed U.S. and Saudi warplanes struck several logistical bases and weapons storage sites in eastern Iraq. It further claimed that the operation came in response to more than 30 drone attacks allegedly launched from Iraqi territory over the previous 72 hours toward Saudi oil installations in the Kingdom's Eastern Province and the capital, Riyadh.
