The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a telephone conversation with his Iraqi counterpart, emphasized that the valuable relations between Tehran and Baghdad should not be affected by certain personal and unofficial statements.

Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Fuad Hussein, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, on Saturday evening, July 18, 2026, in a telephone conversation, discussed and exchanged views on the latest regional developments following the US military aggression against our country, the repeated violation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding by Washington, and the Islamic Republic of Iran's response to these actions.
 
Araghchi, in this telephone conversation, described the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq as deep-rooted, strategic, and based on profound historical, cultural, religious ties, and shared interests of the two nations, and stated: "These valuable relations should not be affected by certain personal and unofficial statements. Iran emphasizes mutual respect, good neighborliness, and the further development of relations with the Iraqi government and nation."
 
The two sides also, in this conversation, while examining the dimensions of current developments and their impact on regional security and stability, emphasized the importance of continuing bilateral consultations and coordination to prevent the escalation of tensions and maintain regional peace and security.
