Malaysian Scholar Discusses Intellectual Legacy of Martyred Leader and Its Relevance to Future of Muslim Ummah

Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, President of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM), shared these remarks in an interview with the Taqrib News Agency (TNA) on the occasion of the commemoration ceremony for the Martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Responding to a question regarding the martyred Leader’s intellectual legacy in confronting Islamophobia, Azmi Abdul Hamid stated that one of Ayatollah Khamenei’s most enduring contributions was his insistence that Islam must be understood through its authentic sources and genuine moral teachings, rather than through distorted stereotypes or political propaganda. He noted that the Supreme Leader consistently presented Islam as a faith founded upon justice, knowledge, compassion, human dignity, and resistance to oppression.
He added that Ayatollah Khamenei challenged attempts to associate Islam with extremism by encouraging Muslims—particularly the youth—to deepen their understanding of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah, strengthen their intellectual foundations, and contribute positively to society.
According to Azmi Abdul Hamid, the martyred Leader promoted confidence in Islamic civilization, independent thinking, and constructive engagement with the contemporary world, all while remaining firmly committed to Islamic principles.
