Iraqi cleric hails Iran-US ceasefire MoU

The leader of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement has welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the US, describing it as an opportunity for the region to move toward greater calm and stability.

Sayyed Ammar al-Hakim, head of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement, welcomed the Iran–U.S. ceasefire deal expressing hope that it would mark the beginning of lasting peace and an end to conflicts in the region, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
According to the media office of the National Wisdom Movement, al-Hakim also expressed appreciation for the efforts of the mediating countries, especially Pakistan and Qatar, in helping create the conditions for the agreement. He said he hoped the step would lead to reduced tensions, an end to hostilities, and the establishment of lasting peace and stability in the region.
 
He also said the agreement represents an opportunity for the region to move toward greater calm and stability.
 
According to a statement issued by the Secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council early Monday, June 15, under the terms of the MoU, war and military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, will cease immediately and permanently beginning tonight, and Iran’s maritime blockade will be fully lifted.
 
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced in a message posted early Monday on the social media platform X that Iran and the United States had reached a peace agreement, stating that both sides had accepted the immediate and permanent end of military operations. He said the official signing ceremony for the agreement will be held on Friday, June 19, in Switzerland.
