The Prisoners Affairs Authority of Bahrain reports an escalation in tensions between Bahraini security forces and Shia citizens following mourning ceremonies for the anniversary of Imam Jawad’s (AS) martyrdom.

Widespread summons of citizens and the arrest of a religious procession official have been reported.
 
According to published reports, Bahraini officials have summoned hundreds of Shia citizens for judicial review and interrogation in the aftermath of the mourning ceremonies for the anniversary of Imam Jawad’s (AS) martyrdom.
 
In this regard, local sources announced that the head of one of the religious processions in the “Mughabeh” region has been arrested after being summoned by security agencies.
 
 
It is said that this action was taken in connection with the holding of mourning ceremonies and rituals related to the anniversary of Imam Jawad’s (AS) martyrdom.
 
Reports also indicate that despite restrictions and the decision of the Bahraini Ministry of Interior prohibiting the holding of mourning processions outside of Hussainiyas and religious centers, groups of Shia citizens have proceeded to hold ceremonies and move mourning processions in some areas.
 
These developments are occurring while the Bahraini government pursues a policy of suppressing Shia Muslims, and the issue of holding Shia religious rituals and ceremonies in Bahrain has repeatedly become a point of contention between protestors and the country’s government in recent years.
 
However, Bahraini officials have not yet released further details regarding the number of detainees or the charges brought against them.
