Silence towards US crimes in Yemen led to the Minab disaster in Iran

According to the Taghrib News Agency, Amnesty International has reopened the file of a horrific crime that the US committed last year by targeting an African migrant detention center in Saada, which resulted in the death and injury of more than 120 people.

On the anniversary of this crime, the organization stated in its report: One year after the bloody US airstrike on the migrant detention center in Saada in northwestern Yemen, no tangible progress has been made towards achieving justice and compensation, while survivors continue to suffer from severe physical and psychological injuries.

The statement said that Amnesty International is calling for an investigation into the US airstrike of April 28, 2025, which killed and injured dozens of African migrants, and considers it a war crime.

Amnesty International emphasized that the US government during Donald Trump's presidency, instead of taking reliable steps to ensure accountability and conducting effective and rapid investigations or providing compensation to affected civilians, dismantled the measures and mechanisms that had been developed to prevent harm to civilians as a result of US military operations abroad.

The organization referred to the US war crime of attacking the Minab girls' school during the 40-day imposed war against the Islamic Republic of Iran and emphasized: During the Trump presidency, the US committed even more brutal crimes, and 11 months after targeting the migrant detention center in Saada, it carried out an illegal airstrike on a school in Minab, Iran, which martyred 168 people, including 120 children.

The report described these crimes as confirmation of the criminal nature of the US and the true identity of its statesmen.

On the other hand, Erika Guevara Rosas, Director of Research, Advocacy, Policy, and Campaigns at Amnesty International, emphasized: One year after that crime, US officials have failed to be accountable or provide the results of investigations into this matter, and the families of the victims of the attack on the detention center in Yemen still lack important information about this incident, and justice for their loved ones has not yet been achieved. These families are still struggling and are deprived of the necessary means to live a dignified life or even access medical services. They must receive full, effective, and immediate compensation for damages, including through the receipt of rights, compensation, rehabilitation, satisfaction, and guarantees of non-repetition of similar actions, through the adoption of an effective and accessible mechanism.

At the end of its report, Amnesty International emphasized that the US has deliberately committed mass killings of civilians on multiple occasions, while the Trump administration seeks to cover up all the crimes that the US has committed during past and current presidencies, which emphasizes the unity of the US's criminal approach across different periods.
