Amnesty International has denounced the recent threats by US President Donald Trump to hit Iran’s infrastructure warning that such actions amount to war crimes causing severe harm to civilians.

The organization described Trump’s remarks about attacking Iranian power plants and bridges as “disgusting.” Its Secretary General, Agnès Callamard, cautioned that such actions could trigger “a potential wave of war crimes,” emphasizing that civilians would bear the brunt of the damage.
 
“What a disgusting and hateful message,” Callamard said. “Iranian civilians will be the first to suffer from the destruction of power plants and bridges, and they will not be able to escape the attacks.”
 
She added: “This could amount to a wave of war crimes. This is Donald Trump, the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.”
 
The comments came after Trump, continuing what critics describe as an aggressive stance, reportedly called on Sunday for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, warning that otherwise Tuesday would mark the targeting of bridges and power plants inside Iran.
