According to Taghrib News Agency(TNA), in a post published on his official account on the social media platform X, al-Ghariani stated that reclaiming Jerusalem and liberating Palestinian land from what he described as Zionist occupation is an obligation upon all Muslims, a duty that is not lifted unless it is fulfilled.
He emphasized that Islamic scholars are unanimous in their view that if captives fall into the hands of the enemy, securing their release becomes a collective obligation upon Muslims.
He further stated that freeing Muslim prisoners from enemy custody takes precedence over other religious duties that may otherwise be readily performed at that time.
Al-Ghariani warned that the negligence of Muslims, which he said led to the loss of Jerusalem, could—if not remedied—result in the loss of other sacred sites in Mecca and Medina.
He also stressed that scholars and preachers must make Muslims aware of what he described as the obligation of jihad when circumstances require it, adding that delaying clarification in such situations would amount to concealment of religious guidance.
The Libyan Grand Mufti added that if Muslims are unable to engage in armed struggle to free their captives, they must allocate funds from the Muslim public treasury (Bayt al-Mal) to support those engaged in such efforts. If public funds are insufficient, he said, it becomes obligatory upon all Muslims to contribute financially toward securing the freedom of captives.
