Hojjatoleslam Qureshi:

Attending Ahl al-Bayt Gatherings Is Essential to Guard Against Satan

Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Mehdi Qureshi, the Representative of the Supreme Leader in West Azerbaijan Province and Friday Prayer Leader of Urmia, emphasized that Satan is an invisible enemy and that religious scholars must protect both themselves and the faithful—Shiais, believers, and Muslims—from his influence.
Attending Ahl al-Bayt Gatherings Is Essential to Guard Against Satan
According to Taghrib News Agency(TNA), Speaking at the “Pioneers of Religious Propagation” conference in Khoy, he stated that Satan’s primary weapon is temptation and deception. “Satan and his offspring are not ordinary enemies,” he said. “Therefore, we must strengthen and prepare ourselves more than ever in order to stand firm against him.”
Referring to a sermon of Imam Ali (AS) in Nahj al-Balagha, Qureshi noted that some individuals have taken Satan as their criterion and companion, and in turn Satan has made them his partners. He described the metaphor used by Imam Ali, saying that Satan implants his influence within their hearts and nurtures his followers through them.
Qureshi further stated that God has granted Satan a degree of power that enables him to infiltrate the human being. “Just as blood and the soul flow within the human body, Satan too can circulate within a person’s existence,” he said. “He is not an ordinary enemy; he infiltrates from within, takes control, speaks through one’s tongue, sees through one’s eyes, and acts through one’s hands. Therefore, faith, knowledge, conviction, and belief must be strengthened.”
He stressed that, according to Qur’anic verses and narrations, scholars must connect both themselves and the people to God’s angels. “The human soul is vast and expansive, and it can become a passage for devils,” he explained. “Scholars must transform themselves and society into a place frequented by divine angels instead.”
Qureshi added that part of human existence is linked to angels and their presence. “Religious scholars must ensure that people sit in the company of angels rather than in the company of Satan,” he said.
Citing Imam Sadiq (AS), Qureshi noted that certain angels—distinct from the recording angels (Kiraman Katibin)—travel among people. When they observe gatherings in which the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) are mentioned, they pause, sit, and listen. They reflect alongside the believers on matters of faith, and after such gatherings conclude, they visit the sick among them and attend the funerals of their deceased.
He concluded by emphasizing that distancing oneself from Satan requires encouraging widespread participation in gatherings devoted to the Ahl al-Bayt. “If we seek protection from Satan, we must create conditions in which people frequently attend such assemblies and keep company with God’s angels instead of Satan.”
Quoting Imam Sadiq (AS), he added: “When a believer stands in prayer, God turns toward him, His mercy overshadows him, and angels surround him.”
