Ahmed el-Tayeb urged Muslims to make full use of the days and nights of Ramadan for spiritual purification, cleansing of hearts, and strengthening bonds of love and peace among people, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He expressed hope that the holy month would serve as a new beginning for reinforcing unity, rejecting division and discord, and renewing the covenant with God to uphold truth, ease the suffering of the afflicted, and support the oppressed.

Concluding his remarks, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar prayed for the protection of the Muslim Ummah, and for the realization of security, stability, and prosperity across Muslim nations. He also asked for continued progress and advancement for Egypt and all Arab and Islamic countries.

Meanwhile, Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyyah announced that the official and public ceremony for sighting the crescent moon marking the beginning of Ramadan 1447 AH will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the Al-Azhar Conference Center headquarters.

Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Singapore, and Oman also announced—based on astronomical calculations—that the crescent moon is not expected to be sighted on Tuesday evening, declaring Thursday, February 19, as the first day of Ramadan.
