Iraq Seeks to Register the Prophet’s Birthday and the Qur’an File in UNESCO’s World Heritage List

According to Taghrib News Agency(TNA), Asaad Turki Sawari, Iraq’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO in Paris, announced that he had presented two proposals during a meeting of ambassadors from Islamic countries at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The proposals concern the registration of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday and the Qur’an file in UNESCO’s heritage framework.

He emphasized that one of the proposals seeks to support the commemoration of the Prophet’s birthday by including it in UNESCO’s “Memory of the World” register.
Sawari explained that the second proposal, concerning the Qur’an, aims to prevent actions by certain governments that allow extremists to publicly desecrate the Holy Qur’an—by tearing or burning it—thereby violating the sanctity of the divine scripture and openly challenging the Islamic Ummah.
