Baghaei: Tehran Will Respond to BoGs New Resolution

Esmaeil Baghaei described the resolution as a clear misuse of an international body to advance the agendas of the United States and three European countries regarding Iran’s nuclear issue. He called it irresponsible and unjustified, ignoring the Agency’s own procedures and even Security Council practices, thereby undermining the independence and credibility of the IAEA and reducing it to a political tool for pressuring member states.

Baghaei noted that the resolution makes no reference to the real cause of the current situation. Neither the resolution nor the statements of the U.S. and European countries mention the fact that Israel and the U.S. attacked Iran’s nuclear facilities in June, which was the reason inspections and cooperation with the Agency were halted. He added that the resolution itself created divisions within the Board of Governors, with about half of the countries abstaining or voting against, including two permanent members of the Security Council—China and Russia—who had previously opposed attempts to revive cancelled Security Council resolutions.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson stressed that the resolution is legally weak, as it is based on an action that was already rejected at the Security Council by much of the international community, including two permanent members.
He reiterated that Iran’s counter measures will follow: “Through an official letter to the Agency we declared that the Cairo Understanding, reached with Iran’s goodwill after lengthy negotiations, is now considered void, and other steps are also being planned.”
Baghaei further criticized the claims of the U.S. and three European states as hypocritical and insincere: “They have repeatedly violated their commitments. Their claim of using diplomacy to resolve the issue has never been genuine. The very act of issuing this resolution means rejecting diplomatic solutions and resorting to pressure and sanctions. These claims cannot be taken seriously, as they are in complete contradiction with the behavior of these countries and the U.S.”
