Mercy in the Moment of Victory
Referring to the conquest of Mecca, Ibn al-Khayyat recalled a moment when one companion declared, “Today is the day of revenge,” to which the Prophet responded, “No, today is the day of mercy.” This historic statement, he said, illustrates that the Prophet was a messenger of compassion and coexistence even at the height of power and in the battlefield.
