Thousands of people took to the streets in a peaceful protest held hours ahead of Italy’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Israel.

The protesters marched towards the Bluenergy Stadium which was under tight security control by over 1000 police officers and army personnel since hours before the match began.

Clashes erupted between some pro-Palestinian demonstrators and police, while thousands of others peacefully marched through Udine in protest at the hosting of a match they felt should not be played.

The protesters carried a huge flag of Palestine and red cards chanting ‘Show Israel the Red Card’ in a unified call on the world soccer body, FIFA to suspend Israel’s membership from the organization over the regime’s genocide and occupation in Gaza Strip.

The march was organized despite a ceasefire agreement that took effect on Friday aimed at ending the deadly strikes against Gaza and reopening of the crossings for flow of aid.
