The head of the Al Azhar University has warned against desecration of religious sanctities in societies calling on world governments to take action against the issue.

Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb made the remarks in a meeting with Swedish ambassador to Egypt, Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt warning that the Qur’an burning incidents in recent years have provoked more than two billion Muslims across the globe, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
Calling for measures to prevent further desecration of the Islamic sanctities, Ahmed el-Tayeb stressed that such moves must not be justified under the pretext of defending the freedom of speech.
 
He said,” There is no freedom to desecrate religious sanctities.”
 
Ahmed el-Tayeb warned that the repetition of desecration incidents threatens human values and will spread hatred among people.
 
The prominent Muslim scholar called on the governments to approve laws as part of preventive measures against desecration of religious sanctities.
 
The Swedish ambassador for his part hailed the efforts by Al-Azhar to expand reconciliation and coexistence emphasizing that his nation opposes any form of anti-Islam campaigns.
 
Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt said Muslims make ten percent of the population in Sweden calling them as inseparable part of the European country.
