Araghchi reiterated the purely peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program and stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always considered diplomacy the sole solution to international issues, including its nuclear file. He affirmed Iran’s willingness to pursue any fair and balanced resolution that guarantees mutual interests.
He stated that South Korea, as the rotating president of the Security Council—whose primary mission is to maintain peace—is expected to prevent any trends that could lead to increased tensions and instead facilitate the path of diplomacy.
The South Korean Foreign Minister, whose country holds the presidency of the Security Council for the month of September, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the procedures of Security Council resolutions and expressed hope that all parties would continue efforts to find a diplomatic solution.
At the end of the conversation, both sides agreed to use the opportunity of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly to hold a bilateral meeting and continue consultations.
