Iran condemns any attempt to harm Islamic unity

The top official made the remarks in a post on his social media X, after a video emerged depicting a renowned Iranian cleric, on Hajj pilgrimage, criticizing Saudi Arabia, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

Araghchi said,” Iran in no uncertain terms condemns any attempt to harm Muslim unity, particularly in the spiritual atmosphere of the Hajj.”

He emphasized Tehran’s determination to not allow anyone sabotaging relations with “brotherly neighbors” including the progressive path of Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Iranian Foreign Minister hailed as “highly competent” the kingdom’s management of Hajj 2025 extending greetings to the Saudi government and nation for welcoming Muslims to the holy shrines.

Iranian Gholamreza Qassemian was arrested, following the publication of the video on social media.

Iran’s consulate in Saudi Arabia acted immediately, issuing a formal note demanding that the cleric be released.

Iran’s ambassador to Riyadh, Alireza Enayati hailed the dedication and respectful treatment of the Saudi Arabia with all pilgrims, including Iranians saying, “No one tolerates offensive speech, and pilgrims are expected to respect local laws and the sanctity of the holy sites.”

Also, Abdol Fattah Navvab, Supreme Leader’s representative for Hajj, said: “Those remarks should not have been said” as he urged Saudi authorities to allow Ghasemian to complete his pilgrimage, considering his personal views and service to Quranic culture.

The remarks by the 52-year-old cleric have drawn much criticism at home amid widespread calls for release of the scholar renowned for judging a popular Quranic program Mahfel on Iran’s state television.
