Sheikh Azmi Abdul Hamid, the president of MAPIM has issued a new statement to support a call by MP Imran Hussain calling for a total and immediate sanction against Israel to force the regime end its blockade of Gaza that has led to humanitarian situation in the besieged Gaza, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
He said,” We commend MP Imran Hussain for upholding the highest standards of humanity and international justice by confronting the complicity of world powers and demanding a complete economic, military and diplomatic blockade of Israel until it halts its genocidal aggression and complies with international law.”
The Malaysian scholar referred to more than a year of relentless strikes on Gaza claiming the lives of 61,000 Palestinians, including women and children, journalists and medical teams.
He noted that the unabating strikes coupled with a deliberate blockade of food and medical aid, has resulted in mass famine, displacement and suffering among Palestinians and stressed,” This is not a conflict, this is genocide.”
Azmi Abdul Hamid called on the Malaysian Government, all members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), ASEAN, the Global South as well as the civil society across the world to echo and amplify this demand for full sanctions against Israel.
According to the prominent Malaysian scholar the sanction would necessitate an immediate arms embargo and cessation of all military cooperation with Israel, suspension of trade, investment, and technological collaboration with Israeli entities, revocation of diplomatic ties and denial of entry to Israeli officials and supporters of the genocide and also unhindered support for the ICC and ICJ proceedings against Israeli war crimes and apartheid.
The call by the renowned Malaysian council comes amid the worst humanitarian situation across the Gaza Strip caused by more than two months of full blockade imposed by Israeli regime.
With no humanitarian supply entering Gaza for more than 70 days, more civilians, particularly children are falling victim to the starvation and famine-like conditions.
