Regarding Trump's remarks about changing the name of the Persian Gulf during his visit to Saudi Arabia, Ayatollah Khatami stated: "Trump denied this issue. Iran will not allow Trump to change the name of the Persian Gulf. Those who are outside the country also protested against Trump, creating this unity. The Persian Gulf has been known as the Persian Gulf even before Islam and is the first sea to have a name."
The Tehran Friday prayer leader said: "Ancient Roman historians referred to the Persian Gulf as the Sea of Persia. We expect our neighbors to take action in this regard and tell Trump that we do not agree with these incorrect actions, and this Gulf has been the Persian Gulf and will forever remain so."
Ayatollah Khatami also addressed the situation in Yemen, stating: "For about three months, the U.S. has been attacking Yemen, and during this time, 117 civilians have been martyred and 231 injured; however, the Americans are retreating from Yemen with their tails between their legs. The Yemenis have shot down dozens of American drones."
He noted: "The Yemenis have also downed an American F-16 aircraft. The Yemenis are their own force and are not a proxy."
The Tehran Friday prayer leader described the criminal gang of Netanyahu and the Americans as proxy forces, stating: "The Yemenis are fulfilling their duty and are trying to put pressure on Trump and Netanyahu; meanwhile, Iran does not need a proxy force and will respond firmly whenever it decides to."
