OIC Condemns Rise in Islamophobia and Attacks Against Muslims in India

Following an attack on April 22 in the tourist area of Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists, Kashmiri Muslim vendors and students in Indian cities have faced harassment, threats, and negative campaigns from Hindu right-wing groups.
The OIC Human Rights Commission, while expressing sorrow over the civilian casualties in the Pahalgam attack, emphasized that attacking innocent citizens under the guise of retaliatory action is a clear violation of human rights and human dignity. The commission called for an impartial and immediate investigation into the attack and urged all parties to ensure the safety of civilians.
The statement also called on the Indian government to adhere to its commitments under international human rights laws and to take appropriate measures to guarantee the security and welfare of Muslims.
The OIC Human Rights Commission urged the international community and UN human rights bodies to closely monitor the situation and take necessary actions to support the rights and dignity of Muslims in India.
The organization once again called for the establishment of a fact-finding mission or international inquiry commission under the auspices of the United Nations to independently investigate the human rights situation in Indian-administered Kashmir. It also urged the UN and the global community to pressure India to comply with UN Security Council resolutions and OIC resolutions regarding Kashmir and to refrain from administrative and legal actions that would alter the geographical or demographic status of Kashmir.
