Sheikh Azmi Abdul Hamid, the president of MAPIM, in a recent statement called the Israeli drone strike on the Gaza-bound flotilla as a flagrant violation of the international law, maritime conventions, and basic humanitarian principles, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
He denounced the Israeli regime’s attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla as “state terrorism” and said,” The Israeli regime has once again shown its utter disregard for human life, international law, and moral norms by attacking a civilian humanitarian mission that carried food, medicine, and aid for the besieged people of Gaza.”
MAPIM president emphasized,” The Israeli attack is a war crime and a violation of the freedom of navigation under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).”
He stressed that to target humanitarian ships amounts to targeting humanity itself calling for a global emergency response in face of the Israeli aggression on the aid convoy bound for Gaza.
He also lashed out the United States and Western powers for shielding Israel and enabling its actions with weapons and diplomatic impunity calling the US and western countries as “fully complicit” in these crimes.
The Malaysian scholar demanded the UN Security Council, the International Criminal Court (ICC), and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to immediately launch investigations and hold Israel accountable.
He also urged for an immediate international military escort for all Gaza-bound humanitarian convoys and activation of international emergency protocols to investigate the Israeli leadership to justice.
Azmi Abdul Hamid said,” The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), ASEAN, and non-aligned nations must convene in an extraordinary summit to formulate concrete responses, including sanctions and legal actions.”
The scholar demanded the Muslim nations with military capability to consider the deployment of international peace protection forces to stop Israel’s open violations and crimes.
