A number of Malaysian Islamic institutions have expressed full support for a recent fatwa (religious statement) by the Committee of the International Union of Muslim Scholars calling the statement a firm and relevant guideline in the context of Israeli genocide in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The call by Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM), the World Mosque Alliance for the Defense of Al-Aqsa Mosque (MANAR), and the Secretariat of the Assembly of Ulama of the Asian Region (SHURA) comes in response to a fatwa issued by IUMS stressing necessity of an immediate military intervention by Arab and Islamic countries to defend the dignity of the ummah, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

The statement by Malaysian Islamic organizations emphasized the obligation for blockade of the Israeli regime by land, sea and air crossings belonging to the Islamic countries.

The statement also highlighted importance of supporting the Palestinian struggle through military, financial, political and human rights channels.

Elsewhere in the statement, the Islamic centers proposed establishment of an Islamic military alliance to protect the ummah in face of the hostile aggression.

Stressing the diplomatic means, the Malaysian Islamic centers called for prohibition of normalizing ties with the “occupying” and “criminal” Israeli regime and also reassessment of the peace agreements already signed between the Tel Aviv regime and some Arab states.

The statement called on the Muslim community in the US to press Donald Trump administration to end support for the invasion and advocate for just peace.

The Islamic centers MAPIM, MANAR, and SHURA urged Muslims, namely the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Islamic NGOs, scholarly institutions, and civil society to act in unity and coordination in accordance with this fatwa.

The statement by Malaysian institutions concluded,” This is the time for us to demonstrate true solidarity—not just through prayers and condemnation, but through strategic, large-scale actions rooted in shar’i imperatives.”

The call by the three Islamic centers comes as the Israeli regime genocide in Gaza is in its 18th month leaving behind close to 51,000 Palestinians killed, over 1.9 million people displaced and a trail of destruction.

The statement was signed by prominent Malaysian scholars Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, President of MAPIM, Datuk Seri Syekh Ahmad Awang, Chairman of MANAR and also Dato’ Wira Syekh DR Abdul Ghani Samsudin, Chairman of SHURA.
