Iran summons UK, French, German envoys over nuclear program meeting

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the ambassadors of the United Kingdom, France and Germany to its headquarters in Tehran following a closed-door meeting between delegates of the three countries and the United States regarding Iran’s nuclear program at the United Nations Security Council.

The statement further revealed that the ambassadors of the three European countries were called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where “Iran expressed its strong protest over the irresponsible and provocative stance taken by these countries.”
It also stressed that holding a closed-door Security Council meeting on Iran’s nuclear programme “lacked any technical or legal justification.”
The statement added that the ambassadors were informed that the stance of these countries “indicates support for the United States,” which unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement approved by the Security Council in 2018. This “could jeopardise Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).”
Media reports had indicated that the United States had discussed Iran’s nuclear programme in a closed session with European signatories to the deal, the UK, France, and Germany, at the UN Security Council on Wednesday.
