Syria slams UNHRC anti-Iran resolution

In a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Monday, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad denounced the UN Human Rights Council's recent resolution against Iran.

In addition to the HRC resolution, Mekdad and Amir-Abdollahian mulled over Tehran-Damascus ties as well as regional and international developments.

That resolution, adopted on November 24 at the HRC special session on Iran, addressed what it described as “the deteriorating human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran” in the wake of the recent riots in the country.
Iran dismissed the resolution as a “political scam”, expressing regret that a group of bullying states is abusing the Human Rights Council.
Iran says certain Western countries, including the UK and the US, back the riots.
