Iran stresses right to defend security in face of aggression from anywhere

Spokesman of Iran’s Foreign Ministry has stressed the country’s rights to defend its national security in the face of aggression sparked from anywhere following the recent strikes against terrorists’ position in northern Iraq.

“As warned before, the Islamic Republic of Iran, based on international law and the provisions of the United Nations Charter, reserves the right to defend its national security against any act of aggression coming out from any territory,” Nasser Kan'ani said in a statement on Friday.

He denounced Western countries’ statements and positions regarding the Iranian armed forces' attacks on bases of terrorists in Iraq’s northern region of Kurdistan. Kan’ani said these groups have conducted acts of terror against Iran and fueled domestic unrest in the country.

The Iranian official said such countries as the United States and Germany issued unilateral statements while at the same time violating their international responsibilities in fighting terrorism. Those states, he said, display "selective and discriminatory" behavior and ignore their own meddlesome acts and violation of the sovereignty of other countries.

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)’s Ground Force has been conducting a series of aerial raids on the positions of Iraqi Kurdistan-based terrorist groups, including the so-called Komala Party since September 24 in response to the dispatching of terror teams and a large cache of weapons to western Iranian regions aimed at creating unrest following the death of a 22-year-old Iranian woman.

The Komala group has a long history of involvement in terror attacks and acts of sabotage in Iran in close collaboration with the United States and the Zionist regime.

In meddlesome remarks, Washington and Berlin on Wednesday condemned Iran's use of ballistic missiles and drone attacks against terrorist groups in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

Kan'ani also said Iran has repeatedly called on officials in the central government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government to “prevent the activities of separatist and terrorist elements and groups that are working against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Iran has always expressed its strong objection to the Kurdistan region's hosting of anti-Iran terrorist groups and their movements against the Islamic Republic, he stated. Iran would never tolerate any threat stemming from the proximity of its border areas, the official added.

Kan’ani once again expressed Iran's firm determination to comply with its international commitments in order to "prevent and effectively fight terrorism."

Earlier in the day, Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri warned the US forces against cooperation with anti-Iran terrorists in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, saying Tehran would retaliate against any hostile action against Iranian drones.
