Iran calls humanitarian exemption in sanctions "big lie"
He considered sanctions as an example of a crime against humanity and stated: "Unilateral, secondary and extra-territorial sanctions are against the United Nations Charter and international law and can cause the international responsibility for governments."

In this meeting, while referring to the report of the special rapporteur on unilateral coercive measures (Ms. Alena Douhan) from her visit to Iran (May 8-18), Secretary of the Iran's High Council for Human Rights called on all member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to express their official positions in the Human Rights Council meeting in support of this mission and expressing opposition to unilateral and illegal sanctions against human rights.

While pointing to the efforts of the special rapporteur in raising public awareness about the destructive effects of unilateral sanctions on the enjoyment of human rights, he stated: "Many countries and companies, under the pretext of fear of American sanctions and punishment, refuse cooperating with Iran, especially in the field of providing humanitarian items."

In this meeting, the representatives of several countries, including Afghanistan, Lebanon, Gambia and Turkey, condemned the unilateral coercive measures and expressed the need for a collective effort to deal with them.
