Jordanian figures call on Amman to coordinate permanently with "Hamas" as a strategic interest

The former Jordanian Minister of Culture and Minister of Youth, Muhammad Abu Rumman, said that "it is important for Jordan to have strategic relations with Hamas, permanent coordination, and a redefinition of the relationship... and a real strategic dialogue."

He added that "Hamas is an active and powerful party, and it should not be outside the framework of the strategic dialogue and the continuous coordination of Jordan," according to what he sees.

Abu Rumman invoked the Egyptian position on "Hamas", saying: "Looking at the Egyptian situation, we find that it entered into hostility with Hamas in the last period...but it did not sever its relationship with the movement as a result of several factors, the most important of which is the Gaza Strip border file."

He noted, "Therefore, we need a vital strategic dialogue with Hamas regarding, for example, the West Bank file and Palestinian refugees. There are files related to Jordan's national security, and this requires the necessity of developing clear perceptions between Jordan and Hamas."

Abu Rumman considered that the relationship between Jordan and "Hamas" has witnessed a partial improvement over the years, "and it was known that there are periodic visits by Hamas leaders to Jordan, and intermittently and seasonally (of the movement's leader abroad, Khaled) Mashaal, and it is clear that there are political changes that prompted Opening a larger channel with Hamas, albeit to a limited extent.

For his part, the Jordanian writer and journalist, Samir Al-Hiyari, confirmed that "the visit that the head of the Hamas movement abroad, Khaled Meshaal, to Jordan, recently, bore a political character, and was not of a social nature."

In an interview with Quds Press, Al-Hiyari, the publisher of the "Ammon" news agency, expressed his belief that Meshaal's visit to Amman, which took place last August, "has several political dimensions. There were meetings and contacts with Jordanian officials. To discuss various political issues and this matter has not been denied or confirmed by the decision-maker in Jordan, not even by those accompanying Mashaal himself," he said.

Al-Hiyari considered that "communicating with Hamas is a national duty for every Arab country."

"Official Jordan must not deal with the Palestinian Authority as the only legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, because there is more than one representative of the Palestinian people, and the official Jordanian dealings with everyone must be equal," he said.

Al-Hiyari referred to previous statements by the leader of the "Fatah" movement, Jibril Rajoub, in which he said that he attacked the Hashemites (the ruling family in Jordan). From the Jordanian government against these statements, while we find the leader of Hamas, Khaled Meshaal, praising Jordan, and Jordan's stances towards the Palestinian cause, especially in Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

Hamas is present on the Palestinian map

In turn, the Jordanian writer and politician Sultan Hattab said that "dealing with the Palestinian scene must be with the title of Palestinian legitimacy, which is the Liberation Organization represented by the Palestinian Authority."

In an interview with Quds Press, Hattab considered that "Hamas is one of the colors of the Palestinian political spectrum, and it is present in the arena of the Palestinian national struggle, and no one denies that."

He explained that "Khaled Meshaal is a positive personality, and he played a prominent role in re-improving the relationship between Jordan and Hamas, on the basis that the latter is present and present on the Palestinian map, and therefore it is okay for the relationship to be smooth and continuous."

He added, "The Arab regime, particularly Jordan and Egypt, can play a role in achieving Palestinian reconciliation," as he estimated.

Hattab called on Jordan "to have a role to put pressure on both sides of the equation, Fatah and Hamas, in order to achieve reconciliation, and not to deal with the two parties as representing the Palestinian people individually.
