Supreme Leader attends Arba’een ceremony via video call

Supreme Leader of Islamic Republic Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei attended the Arba’een mourning ceremony which marks the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) on Monday.

The Leader attended the ceremony held at the University of Tehran via video call due to the COVID-19 restrictions, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
Hundreds of people attended the Arba’een ceremony held in Imam Khomeini (RA) Husseiniya in previous years.
 
According to the health protocols announced by Iran’s National Task Force against Coronavirus, Arba’een ceremony is held via video call and a limited number of representatives of the university students were allowed to the Arba’een 2021.
 
Every year millions of Muslims and the non-Muslims loyal to the third Shia Imam headed for the Iraqi holy city of Karbala to attend Arba’een mourning ceremony. This is while the pandemic infection has brought much limitation to the annual gathering much desired by world Muslims.
