15 Jun 2021 - 14:37

234 poll stations will be available for Iranians abroad in order to cast their ballots in 2021 presidential election to be held on Friday June 18.

The upcoming Iran presidential election is very important and it will determine the fate of Iran in terms of macro-management of the country, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman said while speaking in his weekly press briefing on Monday.

Saying that all Iranians must have access to ballot boxes, Saeed Khatibzadeh stressed that Iranian Foreign Ministry Affairs is responsible for holding elections abroad in accordance with the law.

In this regard, all Iranian around the world will be able to cast their vote in the Friday election.

According to Khatibzadeh, unofficial statistics show that more than 3 million Iranian people abroad are eligible to do so.

The Iranian senior official also announced that 234 poll stations will be available for Iranians abroad, adding that so far, more than 600,000 voting tariffs have been sent to the related apparatus.

Canada is among the 3 countries that refused to cooperate with Iran in this process, he said, criticizing that not only Canada does not cooperate with Iran on the issue of elections, but also it fails to meet the rights of Iranian citizens.
In 24 states of the United States of America ballot boxes have been set up, Khatibzadeh also said.

160 visas for journalists and media have been issued in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance for covering the election news, he said.

Elsewhere he spoke about the ongoing nuclear talks in Vienna, saying that what is happening in Vienna has nothing to do with Iran's elections and internal developments.

Stressing that the talks have not reached deadlocks, he added that talks are underway at the level of technical, political, and executive areas.

There are some delicate tips in the negotiations that are as important as the main issues, he noted.

In the talks, all parties are reviewing the ways how to fulfill US commitments and how to stop Iran's compensatory measures.

In this regard a final text can be reached, he said, stressing that the guidelines of the Leader of Islamic Revolution and Supreme National Security Council determine the policies of Iranian diplomats.

Answering a question raised by one of the reporters over the lifting of US sanctions, he said that it has been agreed to lift some parts of the sanctions imposed on the country, without providing further details.

Khatibzadeh also referred to his recent trip to Iraq, saying that it was a fruitful visit during which he has met with Iraqi officials and cultural figures to expand relations between the two nations.

Referring to the Iranian government's decision to cancel visas for 45 days during the Arbaeen pilgrimage, he said, Iranian cabinet has approved the cancellation of entry visas for Iraqi passport holders if Baghdad would offer reciprocal treatment for Iranians.
