The Egyptian News Agency said the sole border crossing between Egypt and Gaza Strip opened under “exceptional” circumstances and “in solidarity with the Palestinian people” following the directives of the Egyptian leadership to receive the injured.
It added that ambulances are on standby on the Egyptian side of the border, with Egyptian medical teams receiving the wounded and classifying them based on their health conditions to transfer them to different hospitals.
Tensions that started in East Jerusalem in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan spread to Gaza after Palestinian resistance groups there vowed to retaliate against Israeli assaults on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
As many as 192 Palestinians, including 58 children and 34 women, have been killed and 1,235 injured since May 10 when Tel Aviv launched an offensive on the blockaded city.
