Cleric felicitates patriarch Porfirije on enthronement

Top Iranian cleric has congratulated the new Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church enthroned in Belgrade on Friday.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Mohammad Mahdi Taskhiri, director of the center for dialogue among civilizations at Iran's Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) has issued a message for the newly enthroned Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
Senior Iranian cleric stressed importance of mutual cooperation between the center for Islamic civilization at ICRO and the supreme church of Serbia.
 
"I believe this cooperation has proved to be fruitful for promotion of peace, friendship and coexistence among followers of different religions", noted Hujjat-ul-Islam Taskhiri.
 
He expressed hope for expansion of cooperation between the Islamic and Christian centers under the patriarch's authority and also for resumption of dialogues in post-COVID era.
 
59-year-old Serbian cleric is the 46th Patriarch and the successor to Patriarch Irinej, who died in November from COVID-19 at the age of 90.
Porfirije will lead a church of about 12 million people in Serbia, the other five former Yugoslav republics, Kosovo, and dioceses in the United States, Australia and Western Europe.
