Shia mourners from 315 towns and townships from across Nigeria have gathered in one of the greatest conventions to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) as they called for release of the top Shia cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
Muharram mourning ceremonies have been raided by police and security forces in Nigeria leading to martyrdom and injury of a number of mourners.
 
Muharram 2020 ceremonies have been targeted by the police since the first day as the participants in a mourning gathering in Kaduna killing three Shia mourners wounding others.
 
Participants in Ashura mourning ceremony across the African country demanded immediate release of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky who has been illegally jailed by the Nigerian government since 2015.
